The Story Goes...

Around 6 or 7 years ago I invented a game for my students during their English lessons. I didn’t realize at the time that it would go on to take over my life. Bit by bit year by year students of all ages and levels, begged to play the game at the end of class. Some even suggested skipping lessons completely just so that they could play the game.

After a few years of this, I started to think about the game more seriously, I worked hard on adapting questions from English language questions to more generalized questions and made sure to include a variety of topics. I increased the question total from 20 to 2500 and played the game with the students at Christmas or at the end of the year. It was a success, but on a small scale. My students loved it, but it even though I’d increased the number of questions development of the game halted. It remained as it was for several more years…

One day I was informed by my students that they liked it so much they’d taken my questions and they had played it with their friends in the pub. Knowing the popularity of the game had spread outside of the classroom I decided to bring the game back to the drawing board and take it to the next level. Making it a commercially viable product.
Firstly it needed a name, “Same Different” was easy and fit perfectly. Next, I needed help writing rules, and choosing the questions and I added an extra element the ‘black token’. Then I roped two people into helping me and we started to change the game into something professional. We developed categories, enhanced the style of questions developed a box, gave the design some thought and most importantly we took it from 2500 questions to just 540. The perfect amount for a game like this, and we officially set up our company. Here are the three of us on game-night playing another of our favourite games Cards against Humanity.

For Who?

We cannot understate this, but the reality of this game and how we set about designing it is that we made it for everyone*. The questions are for all ages, all genres and all types of people. You are the people that decide on the talking points of the evening with your often strange and unexpected answers. Since it is your group providing these answers the game will be about you. Ensuring that the game fits to all groups and all types of people.

Note* We have rated the game at 12+ in terms of age accessibility. At this age, they should be able to provide answers to a wide variety of the questions. Playing with a younger group, may mean skipping the occasional question due to the level of general knowledge of the child. This doesn’t spoil gameplay or slow things down, it just means you move on to the next question.

No Board = Big Groups
(6-16 players)

Originally we set out to design a board game. But during the testing phase, we realized that the strength of the game was in the fact that it didn’t need a board. Just a scorecard. No clunky board to get out and little pieces to move constantly around the board, or that awkwardness when you’re at a big table and can’t see the board. Not having a board freed the game up for those big group occasions. So that is why we expanded the game contents so that the game could be played with up to sixteen* players. There are very few games on the market that you can play in such big groups and we are proud to be one of them. Making the game perfect for family get-togethers, holidays, New years eve parties and festivals.

Going camping with a big group, then this is the game for you!
